It's the quality and the design. Is it really??

Hundreds of dollars they would cost. Sometimes thousands or even tens of thousands. Brands like Hermes may even take a few years before you receive your tailormade-handmade bag. Why? Is it the quality, really? Or the great design? Or is it simply the feel-good effect of everyone's oohs and aahs?

I say the real reason whether the users admit it or not, it is simply for the purpose of others to admire and to be envious about.

Still denying?

If I move these users to a mountain top with no other inhabitants, would there still be a need for such bags? Would they still say they are carrying them for quality and design? I hardly think so. Unless they want the chirping birds and swinging monkeys to admire them.

I deny! I deny! To me, it's the design and quality really. For that reason, I refuse to buy Gucci (cheapo), Prada (tacky), and Fendy (same thing). I mean look at Bottega. The soft weaved pieces of leather. How can you not fall in love with such perfection? The fakes will not hand as perfectly as the real deal. Must admit LV is a wanna be but, there are some which are truly great.

PS: hee..hee.. salivating over Manhattan, too, are you? :D :D :D

i also object. i think if you like a bag for its design or quality, and you can afford it, doesnt matter if it is $1 or thousands. that is, if you can afford to throw thousands away and not break into cold sweat.

But my point is, all these luxury items are a symbol of "Status". And if there is noone to admire that "Status", why would there be a need for such items. After all, you are probably spending 70% on the brand and 30% on the quality and design. So why not spend just 30% minus the brand?

This is where I deny. If I think the price justify the design (in this case, the structure, the shape, the material), then I'll buy it regardless of status and brand. And I carry it to where ever I think it's appropriate. If, however, the fake/brandless can provide the same design, then yah, why not pay the 30% only?
